Gregory's Serversomeone help me figure out my news notification situation. i want to get notified for absolutely critical news and nothing else. for instance, i wish i had known about the insurrection while it was happening and not during the 7pm news. but i don’t wanna hear about anything short of that.

Your solution (especially with the collapse of Twitter & unreliability of FB) will likely be limited to multi pronged OSINT for the foreseeable future.
It'll also be easier the more urban your area.
Check openmhz for the US - many places also have discord or other chats set up for first responders. Most of these are not locked for viewing & you can configure push notifications.
It's work, and it's not simple - but you can get what you want.
