We were wondering what was hidding behind the cabinet.

@neauoire ... completely reasonable. 'Cause what if secrets?! Must know.

@cathos yeah maybe, the weather is a bit to cold right now to do it properly, but if it gets warmer, we'll insulate the wall.

nomand

@neauoire how did you get used to the aluminum resonator in the middle of the living room, relaying every vibration and halyard slap aloft? xD
Hard lesson learned with my first boat, keel stepped mast never again xD

@nomand @neauoire We know when birds(gulls/crows) are on the mast because of vibrations, it's kind of neat :>.
Dont remember there being a 'getting used to it' period, but then again we have no point of comparison (only ever owned this boat).

Artsun

@neauoire Kind of a questionable design choice on the part of the naval architect to have closed the back of the closet 🤔

I know some of them are open directly onto the hull on Astragale, but not sure about some others. Now I need to check!

@artsun I think the cabinet acts as a sort of isolation layer, unfortunately they haven't varnished or painted the back.. so

jfroehlich

@neauoire was it glued in or could you unscrew it?

Devine Lu Linvega

@jfroehlich a mix of both, there was very old glue that just came off easily, lots of painters nails, and a ton of soft brass screws that broke in half when I tried to remove them

Everything was held together with tiny little screws that didn't really bite, upsized everything 4 times, making it knockdown proof. So if a wave rolls us again, the cabinet is not going try and get out of its place.

Small screws, and large ass screws.

@yngmar Not all! And I must have removed a hundred painters nails that were.. also not stainless. They left little res dots all over.
