Every time I decide where I'm going to move to next, the United States is somewhere near the bottom of the list because of its absurdly complicated legal immigration process compared to its relative openness to illegal immigration.

The US immigration system is clearly broken. It makes it extremely difficult for law-abiding applicants to immigrate through legal channels, while effectively turning a blind eye to illegal immigrants already in the country.

These policies discourage legal immigration and encourage lawbreaking.

It doesn't make sense not to reform the system so that it welcomes legal immigrants who want to contribute to the country, rather than shutting them out.
