@fedora Wayland + Sway

No issues so far :neocat_happy:

flobi 🌻

@fedora Wayland, simply because I am a sucker for :gnome: Gnome's smooths animations :)

Max

@fedora i'm not sure if anyone even has a proper reason to use x11 anymore (edit: i stand corrected)

also hyprland ftw (just not daily driving it)

Be

@mdwalters @fedora Color management doesn't work on Wayland yet, but there's finally work being done on that.

AliveDevil

@mdwalters @fedora

Xorg XRDP, when you want to have a proper remote desktop solution, and doesn't work with Wayland.

Sieva 🚴🚇🏙️🌹

@mdwalters I keep running into issues with screen sharing. Recently had to switch my Debian server to Xorg because that was easier than figuring out how to make Wayland work.

Marcus

@Anibyl @mdwalters this is so true. I've had that problem myself and i saw others struggle with it.

Kuchenmampfer

@mdwalters @fedora sadly, accessibility on wayland is not really a thing. So if you need that, wayland is not an option

ISOmorph

@mdwalters @fedora Steamlink doesn't work on wayland last I checked, so I'm stuck with X11 until Valve fixes it

Sofie :verified_gay:

@mdwalters @fedora VR and VRR on GNOME has been my reason.

I really don't want to be forced over to using Plasma and Plasma only. Simply due to GNOME's perpetual unreadiness for Wayland.

Quills

@mdwalters
Wayland really didn't get well with my i5 3470 with no dedicated gpu setup performance wise, so i guess weaker old machines can be a reason

X11 just works very well for me in comparison
@fedora

Newbyte

@mdwalters @fedora It's still unusable for most games that run over Xwayland if you have an NVIDIA GPU and use the proprietary driver stack. Needs explicit sync.

DELETED

@fedora Since I like Linux Mint and Cinnamon, there's no Wayland port yet. They're working on one though.

Madic

@fedora
With X I had so many problems especially with multi monitor setups. With Wayland it just works. And the rendering of the picture is definetly better on Wayland. I love it and will never use X again. If the desktop environment has no Wayland support, I am not going to use it

Coolgeek

@fedora X.org here. Nvidia + Steam, I'm not sure Wayland is the way to go for now. But I have faith in a future that it will run without an itch !

@fedora

All is Wayland here. -- I converted a while ago and at this point, I can even remove xWayland without issue (I know, I did).

Stefan

@Linux_Is_Best @fedora How? I think I have old X11 only apps here. How do you replace such apps?

DELETED

@stefanjahn @fedora

You either use apps that support Wayland or find alternatives that do.

Luckily, all the apps I use have updated to support Wayland, including Firefox.

pitch R.

@stefanjahn @Linux_Is_Best @fedora all my apps are headless/webinterfaces (keepass, syncthing, mopidy) then there is firefox/thunderbird/evolution, a terminal emulator and a occasional audio/video/picture editor (all wayland supported before i even switched) thats it for my machine. everything else happens in the browser these days.

emerssso

@fedora stuck on X11 because I had all sorts of problems with nvidia drivers on Wayland. Need to give it another shot, but not feeling optimistic.

OTA

@emerssso @fedora I daily drive Fedora with gnome and wayland on an alienware with a rtx4070 with absolutely no problem.

Use Immersed to multiple VR screens on wayland with no problem. Just the mouse cursor has a problem, but there is this accessibility zoom workaround that solves it.

I have this Samsung G9 monitor, which I use with the top 5120x1440 resolution at 120Hz with absolutely no problem.

Love Fedora, Gnome, and Wayland.

Just give it a new shot.

Marty

@fedora I just don't think there's any reason to try wayland. x11 works ok. nvidia drivers also work ok outside of literally not being able to put my computer to sleep

Kuba Olszewski

@fedora I had to use X11 because screen sharing in #slack was not working. Need to check if it’s been corrected.

Marius Ghita

@fedora X11 until Xfce switches to Wayland. I think that should be within the next release if I'm not mistaken.

JimbobB

@fedora The only thing I don’t like about Wayland is lag / pauses on my Pi 4 when using VNC. XOrg is much better and doesn’t have these pauses while clicking on windows / taskbar. One day Wayland won’t show this behaviour 🤞

Отець Владюній

@fedora labwc + Wayland. Great replacement for my previous Openbox based setup.

Bacteria

@fedora

Plasma Wayland Session for 2ish years. 😃

Jak2k

@fedora I use the latest fedora release with KDE and X11, because wayland does not work with my nvidia GPU. I hope this will be fixed before x11 is dropped.

sarah 🦦

@fedora wayland only for ... idk how long now, a year ? half a year ? a year and a half ? no idea

Rassilonian Legate

@fedora
Wayland as of around 24 hours ago on a new computer

Tarcísio Surdi

@fedora wish it was Wayland already but the NVIDIA drivers do not allow me to make the switch yet…

Alex Gurenko

@fedora I’ve been using Wayland with Fedora KDE on both laptop and a desktop since it got available. It was a rough start, but it’s been years since I had any major issues.

Christiaan :fedora: :flag_nl:

@fedora X11, but that'll change quickly when Budgie 11 gets released ✌️😎

CaldeiraG

@fedora Wayland all the way! Unless you're stuck on NVIDIA and have issues 🥲

constancies

@fedora Wayland BUT all of my computers use Intel graphics. I would not blame anyone with NVIDIA for using X11.

frague59 ⏚

@fedora Both of them - My work-provided PC with a nvidia card uses X11 (cannot make wayland work on it), and the others use Wayland...

Thomas Marangoni (DasChaos)

@fedora On my private devices I'm using Wayland, on my Working Machine I'm using X11 because of barrier. I need to interact with windows, if someone knows a working wayland alternative I'm ready to switch :D

DELETED

@fedora Wayland + GNOME 45. Plan to switch to KDE once Fedora 40 releases with Plasma 6. Wayland is so nice to use with Proprietary Nvidia Drivers especially in Steam games I'm going to keep daily driving it

Chris

@fedora Given a choice, I'd use Wayland but there are too many deal-breaking problems on an Nvidia GPU so I am back to X11 until either Nvidia sort their problems out or I can afford to replace the card with AMD

TheMuso

@fedora @sonny Xorg as I am an Orca user. Looking forward to using Wayland however.

Sonny

@TheMuso @fedora

It's a though one, but we'll get there.

MuX

@fedora X11 on my desktop (NVIDIA), Wayland on the laptop (all AMD)

loowiz
@fedora I usually use Wayland but when some of my games start flickering on the screen (I think that's an NVIDIA graphics card issue) I either try to endure it because sometimes I'm too lazy to switch to x11 or I just fall back to x11 temporarily :)
rafal06

@fedora Both, Wayland on a laptop, but Xorg on desktop because of Nvidia :blobfoxannoyed:

prl

@creepy_owlet @fedora Same here

MATE isn't perfect, but it's what we use... and have been for nearly 20 years

Alam

@fedora, Fedora 39, KDE and input methods are bit odd with wayland. X11, it is working normally.
and Fedora 40 KDE, Wayland and input is not working as expected. There is hard crash, only way to use lokalize (translaiton app) with X11

bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.c

Sky Splash

@fedora@fosstodon.org Wayland at work after I had a lot of issues with X11 at home I'm mostly still using X11 because I had some issues with Wayland there that made using it impractical but I'm looking forward to Plasma 6 to switch to Wayland with it for good

Pi-Cla

@fedora
X11 100%. Cause IMEs such as fcitx5 and ibus don't work well with KDE Wayland right now

#fcitx5 #X11 #KDE #ibus

Senioradmin

@fedora
Both. For simple sessions #Wayland, but when I want to do something graphical over network or screen sharing then XOrg.

AlexPewMaster

@fedora Since the Wine wayland driver was released, I'm daily driving Wayland. It's awesome!

Inaction Figure

@fedora Wayland didn't work on my T510 in Plasma until recently. Great work, #Wayland and #kde_plasma teams!

Patrick

@fedora need to use Synergy so stuck with x11 :blobcat_dame:

Jacket

@patrick @fedora It doesn't run with the x11 compatibility layer?
