@theropologist Yes.. The world is soooo much shittier than 40 years ago. *ahum*

This feels like a thing mostly said by people who, you know, weren't alive 40 years ago.

@Schouten_B@mastodon.social @theropologist@beige.party There's actual data that show that the world today is much shittier than 40 years ago. It kinda just feels like a cop-out answer in response to younger generations who have been struggling at life and have been learning that this kind of struggle doesn't have to be this way. :neofox_sad:

This is a graph that is labelled "Disconnect between productivity and a typical worker's compensation, 1948-2014," which depicts the percentage change since 1948 in both hourly compensation and productivity. Here, the growth rate of Productivity since 1973 has continued rising, while Hourly compensation has stayed the same.
This is a graph labeled "Median US Home Prices and Median Family Income," which depicts the median sales price of a US home and the median US family income. Here, it shows that since 1964, the growth rate of the median sales price of a US home has far outpaced the growth rate of the median US family income.

@Schouten_B Yeah it's called shifting baselines. It's why there aren't plenty more fish in the sea. We accept the world we are given as normal and don't realize what we've lost because we've never directly experienced it.
