idk why this guide hasn't existed before and why I had to do this work but if you're shopping for TVs, here you go.

# Jargon
- NanoCell
	- LG name for LED but with extra stuff
	- Uses a proprietary filter to improve color and viewing angles.
- ULED
	- Hisense name for LED but with extra stuff
- Crystal UHD
	- Samsung name for LED
- QLED
	- Samsung name for LED + quantum dots
	- Slightly better than standard LED, but still basically LED.
	- Uses quantum dots + an LED backlight to enhance the brightness and color spectrum of the display
- QNED
	- LG name for LED + quantum dots
	- Quantum Nano Emitting Diode
- Neo QLED (Mini-LED QLED)
	- Like QLED, but uses Mini-LED.
	- Offers better contrast and brightness control compared to traditional QLED.
- Mini-LED
	- Locally-dimmed LEDs but the dimming zones are really tiny.
- Micro-LED
	- It's different from Mini-LED but it's basically not real. Best Buy sells a single Micro LED TV and it's $150,000.
## In summary
### Display technologies
- LED
- OLED
### Additional LED stuff
- Quantum dot
	- Marginally better than bog standard LED, doesn't really matter how it works.
- Mini-LED
	- Locally-dimmed LEDs but the dimming zones are really tiny.
	- Not mutually exclusive with quantum dot
### Jargon
- LED
	- NanoCell, ULED, Crystal UHD
- LED but with quantum dot
	- QLED, QNED
- LED but with quantum dot and mini-LED
	- Neo QLED, Mini-LED QLED

@lucanalin I'm between a Crystal NanoCell Mini-Quantum OLED and a Micro Neo UHD.

Going to the store later today to compare the LG C3 and the Samsung S90C. They're basically the same price, it just comes down to if I want the absolute best picture quality to be Dolby Vision (LG) or HDR10+ (Samsung, slightly less advanced but brighter panel).

@samhenrigold @lucanalin

I am! And if I'd happened across your very helpful toot a couple of weeks ago, it would have saved me a boatload of trouble, time & general frustration.

But I'm saving it anyway, because I'll probably need a refresher the next time.

So thanks for this!

@samhenrigold @lucanalin I own a S90C and have no real regrets.

If you care, there’s a lot more Dolby Vision content available than HDR10+ but I got a great deal on the S90C so decided DV wasn’t worth it.

@samhenrigold if I were to change my 2019 Sony OLED TV nowadays, I think I’d look into (QMS) VRR so I don’t get blackouts at every YouTube ad (HDR+framerate matching on on Apple TV)

@samhenrigold And backlight/ zone/ local/ mini/ dimming doesn't matter with OLED because the individual lights are coloured, is that correct?

@samhenrigold @gklka such a great share. I am getting a nanocell TV!

@samhenrigold this is my kind of information. I did the same thing years ago when comparing different brands and models of FPGAs.

@samhenrigold unrelated but what app were these written in? I’m a heavy user of Typora for markdown to dos and notes but this looks pretty slick
