for reference, here is the top of that same chip. Motorola seems to have used the color striping on a bunch of devices.

@tubetime Maybe the resistance when shorting Vcc to GND on this chip? Yellow-Brown-Red-Silver: 4.1kOhm
Just kidding...

rhulme404

@tubetime It's code for "I'm being held captive in a chip fab. Send help!"

@tubetime Number of engineers sent mad, one more and it's an Ace

@tubetime I seriously hope this picture didn't come from @NanoRaptor

Poul-Henning Kamp

@tubetime

I read it as ora,brn,vio,wht = 3179

So if that is a date code it is 7 weeks after the one on the top ?

A really interesting question is if it was printed before or after the pins were bent into position ?

@tubetime
4.1 kΩ ±0.25%, natch.
Probably that value is relevant after you let the magic smoke out.

pedro

@tubetime equivalent resistance if you connect all pins on either side together?

Kat

@tubetime It's a warning that it's poisonous, and predators shouldn't attempt to eat it.

vince120

@tubetime It has a resistance value of 3.1kOhms +/-10%

On a more serious approach, it can be test indicators. (kind of "QA Passed")
