It’s because organized religion preys on those of us who have mental health issues, trauma, and/or are neurodivergent. For the longest time I had low self-esteem because I thought I was sinful (lazy, self-absorbed, undisciplined, impulsive) turns out it was :AAAAAA:

Psychology empowers us to learn how to deal with our mental and emotional challenges in healthy ways, instead of relinquishing our control to religion’s doctrine and coercion.
