But I'm not sure how supported this is now.

I found that the Firefox bug to implement it is https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1855907
It looks like it's being worked on, but definitely not ready yet.
In the mean time, I'd suggest to keep using the addon.
