For all it's advantages and faults, #Mastodon was not built to be a *new* Twitter. It was built to be *not* Twitter.
That distinction is important.

"Mastodon is too complicated for mass adoption." Who the hell wants mass adoption? Name one thing on the Internet with mass adoption that isn't a dumpster fire.

I'm happy if I can talk to a few friends and meet a few new people. Why do we have to turn everything into a hockey stick growth graph? Jeez.

If you're in the #twittermigration, time to change some habits. See a post you like? Boost it. Does a post really vibe with you? Follow the poster. There's no code spying on your behavior to drive "engagement." Your experience here is entirely in your hands. Also, it's totally cool to unfollow people here who don't quite fit what you're looking for. No one cares. Personal "brands" and influencers aren't really a thing here.

@mike in fact I'd say most people will never look at who is or isn't following them I think it's a good idea for new people to follow a bunch of people they find vaguely interesting then over time unfollow the ones they don't want, because nothing kills that early excitement more like never seeing posts

@mike please explain.
@mike Yes, but in practice, it’s the usage which will decide that, not the initial idea ;)
@mike I agree. I'm finding Mastodon to be refreshing, thoughtful, even fun!
I donated to help Mastodon grow, too. It's a great investment.
Bye bye "birdie"...
