If the take away for everybody will be that alt-rights and nazis aren't welcomed in Freedesktop, then thanks for the publicity

if you are a distribution and do something against upstream's will, you are ethically required to replace all links to upstream bugtrackers with ones to your own downstream one, so users are not tricked into thinking it's upstream where they are expected to find support, but downstream instead.

@karolherbst "We are having crashes and bugs or build issues with Gamescope after we replaced all the submodules of specific commit sha's of static and header only libraries with our system versions and patched your meson.build. You should fix it!!!!"

@karolherbst WE ARE GONNA APPLY THIS SCRIPT RANDOMLY TO EVERYTHING ON THE SYSTEM THAT IS KNOWN TO CAUSE MAYHEM AND ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO QA. BUT ITS OUR FREEDOM TO DO SO AND GIVE OUR USERS THE WORST POSSIBLE EXPERIENCE IN VARIOUS SHADES OF BROWN SHIT

irregular remainder that you can always tip your favorite Open Source developer or maintainer. And if you know that your workplace doesn't pay for any Open Source software, you can also suggest tipping a bit. Maybe frame it like "how much work didn't we had to do, or how much did we save on software licenses, maybe we should give away 1% of that amount". Please do it, every bit helps.

@karolherbst I agree, but am extremely pessimistic My prev job did it twice... bc a local eng manager worked the PO process for a dual license to close it My curr job was much better in the past (also driven by engineers who have since been let go) but is now the worst. It is nigh impossible to have eng buy non-centralized corp-wide SW at all, let alone put in a product, let alone "bc it's the ethical thing" It's important to remember that many FOSS idealists are cogs in exploitation machines

Or quit living as a beggar and just charge people for the work you do. Everyone will be better off.

@karolherbst Honestly, I wanted to love nouveau, but it crashes multiple times a day for me. I've had no option but to use Nvidia's binary blob. Remind me never to buy Nvidia kit again. π

Sometimes when the mesa GPU driver for your GPU refuses to load on your GPU (for valid reasons, like not supporting the chipset) gdm refuses to start. But this can also mean that you are stuck in a boot loop, because systemd will auto restart your display manager, which is normally what you want to happen after it crashed. If you are stuck like this and can't access a tty there is always: `systemd.unit=multi-user.target` you can add when booting your kernel so you drop into a login shell.

@karolherbst oh shoot this could've saved me a lot of headaches in the past dealing with the horrors of nvidia optimus, and solutions that are anything but nvidia's tool for optimus
Pointing Device
@karolherbst If you're lazy, you can just add "3" since multi-user.target is an alias for that sysV runlevel.

performance is terrible, but that's hopefully resolved with the GSP work which is still ongoing :) |
@karolherbst If that was really true, that's an *incredible* long game... π
