The conversation regarding whether Harris is Black or Black enough isn’t one that “good white folx” have

No matter your ethnicity, you’re RARELY questioned regarding the TYPE of white you are or if you’re white enough

Your agency to check “white” on any form is NEVER questioned

A Toni Morrison quote regarding the function of racism is distraction

@KimCrayton1 it's also interesting how severe their fear is of anyone having more than one quality or identity. As a queer person I relate to how racial and ethnic identity should also be a complex spectrum treated with respect and even wonder (first Black woman and first Indian-American at once!!), but white conservatives hate that more than anything as they try to binary-fy us all.

@KimCrayton1 Very well said. The only questions I've ever gotten about what kind of "white" I am have been casual curiosity, not an assessment of my value, my right to be in a place or do a thing. I feel that privilege. #racism

With the quote in the alt text for any who can't read it (my instance limits text too much to just put the text in the toot):

“The function, the very serious function of racism, is distraction. It keeps you from doing your work. It keeps you explaining, over and over again, your reason for being. Somebody says you have no language and you spend twenty years proving that you do. Somebody says your head isn’t shaped properly so you have scientists working on the fact that it is. Somebody says you have no art, so you dredge that up. Somebody says you have no kingdoms, so you dredge that up. None of this is necessary. There will always be one more thing.” - Toni Morrison

And this is why listening to folx with lived experiences of harm is essential when doing liberation work because I have to admit that until I read the caption, I thought that this was a “good” thing

This is why we all need to continually ask ourselves “what am I missing?”

picture of a bench where the middle of the seat is missing with that portion of the back marked with a wheelchair logo. However, there is room for a wheelchair next to the bench.

@KimCrayton1 I have a bed and mattress I’d be happy to donate to put right next to that.

@KimCrayton1 first time I saw one of these I thought wouldn't a wheelchair user just park to the side or front of the bench at a comfortable distance and angle for chatting?

Backing into that space would have the effect of being in different rows of seating. Going forward into the gap would be better for talking to someone on the bench but then the bars are just awkward and useless. Which is true in any case.

No way this was ever designed with wheelchairs in mind.

@KimCrayton1 Hi ! could you update your alt tag, please ? It does not convey why the bench is anti-homeless.

You may have to add that the bench are like two chairs 1m/3ft apart, but linked by a back with a handicapped logo.
