 People need to stop referring to "the economy" when they actually just mean "having a good job that pays the bills" or simply "having a good life where I am thriving." Because when politicians and pundits refer to "the economy" they are talking about the stock market or GDP. For too long we've accepted the lie that those things are correlated, but they aren't. Talking about "the economy" is just gaslighting. Be explicit about what you want from the people in power. Can we just stop using Discord and go back to using forum sites? I realize it's (comparatively) super easy to set up, but y'all realize it's just going to bite us all in the ass as soon as someone at Discord decides they need to turn up the profit ratio? It's a ticking time bomb. The whole thing is going to follow the enshittification process, and anything of value on there is going to be lost/sold/destroyed.

@malcircuit No, because forums do not serve the same purpose as they do not work the same way at all. Closest equivalent is IRC chat, which last I checked does not have the same features and accessibility and is therefore significantly less usable (if at all) for community building purposes. Unless IRC becomes easier to use and more advanced or someone makes a solid open source Discord clone with good UX we're stuck with this and any possible (admittedly not unlikely) future enshitification. Is it the centralization (?) of Discord that makes you keen against it? @malcircuit yeah discord lack of making any of their standards open or even supporting third party is a massive checkhov's gun to me and a lot of things are going into the firing line. To every person who's publicly and proudly transgender, queer, gay, lesbian, ace, poly, pan, bi, black, indigenous, a person of color, disabled, neurodivergent, plural, autistic, ADHD, etc: Thank You Visibility matters. Simply being yourself can impact the lives of others in ways you cannot even fathom. I would not have found myself if not for people like you :heart_pride:

Do what you can to make things better, but don't get upset if it seems like you aren't making a difference. Never feel guilty about indulging in things you enjoy or taking a break. Life is a accident of chance and circumstance. We didn't get to choose to be alive now — at this moment in history, in this place, under these conditions, etc. We just have to deal with it all as best we can

I do try, to make things better than I found them. To be kind to myself while doing so. But everywhere I look there’s piles of shit and bad ideas that somehow have legs. It’s like a massive to do list and I can’t let it go. |

@malcircuit someone, I forget who, suggested every time we hear about "the economy" in the media we should imagine they are saying "the billionaires" and it will usually make more sense
@malcircuit Saw a post a while ago saying we should replace all instances of "the Economy" with "rich people's yacht money". It works quite well for my brain and puts things into perspective. 😊
