Once, there was only primordial forest on the banks of the river Main where the city of Aschaffenburg now stands.

When the city was founded, the settlers didn't bother with chopping down the trees - instead, they set the forests ablaze.

Thus, Aschaffenburg is named after the ashes ("Asche" in German) that were created at the city's founding
