oh check this out, three weeks ago i explained the #raspberrypi fiasco on linkedin

> If you've got questions about this "Mastodon thing" I'm happy to answer them.

When I deleted all my socials, that's where I went.

The gist is:

- If you're a person looking to connect with like minded individuals across the world, you're going to have fun.

- If you're a brand in search of target demographics, you're going to silently be defederated by thousands of communities that are anti-colonial in nature.

The second bit isn't censorship, just an actually free market.

hey @darius :)

has like, a "follower timeline" been thought about for hometown?

just curious atm. in a "what are the people that i attract talking about right now" kinda mood

@tychi so the way Mastodon works, if someone follows you and you don't follow them, and nobody else on your server follows them, then your server doesn't store information about what that person posts. So building that kind of timeline would drastically increase the workload of the server and also have privacy implications where people who aren't followed by you are still being "followed" by you. It's related to why you need to follow an account to add it to a list.

anyone else watch Halt and Catch Fire?

Just started season 4. I ran through season 3. I think this is my favorite show.

@tychi on paper it seems like the kind of thing I would hate but lots of people seem to like it!
