Sound up!! 🔊

I observed this gorgeous #magpie and its mate for a couple of minutes last night. I named him ‘Mitch’. I’m guessing he was the male.

Was around sunset and he allowed me to get quite close.

Mitch appeared trusting, perhaps realising I was no threat. I saw these two earlier as I meandered along the street, taking pictures of the sunset and a few lovely flowers in their neighbourhood. They may have vetted me already and gave the ‘thumbs up!’ 👍

So this is the last 30 seconds of the recording.

#Altext:

It shows Mitch the Magpie leaping up, with a quick flap of wings, onto a public water outlet cover.

Anyways, he’s using the top of the cover to scrape away excess food and gunk, I guess, from his beak as some birds do.

Then after a car passes (he watches it, then appears to look back at me as I rise from my knee filming… he ruffles his feathers and decides to fly off leaving us with a wonderful audio of his flapping wings.

Just as he heads off, another buddy of his decides to voice the magpie’s characteristic cheery song from the powerlines, before taking flight and flying away too!

@NessaUndreza The ones we have in Texas are just mono chromatic black. Wow

@NessaUndreza love the video. I though magpie birds were aggressive? Nice to see them up close, I didn’t realize they are so large.

Gorgeous #Salvia #sage, is a perennial (enduring from season to season) native to Nuevo León, Mexico and parts of the United States including Texas and Oklahoma.

Rich with colour, these are growing happily in #caulfieldsouth #Australia.

Eye-catching and worthy of a share!

@NessaUndreza those colors are gorgeous. Reminds me of the color in jacarandas.

#Ravens (or #crows) and #pigeons co-existing in a mass on power lines…

Suffice to say I took a wide birth, made sure not to walk under there!

#gumtrees are quintessentialy #Australian. These are a few large ones growing in a public reserve in #Caulfield #Australia.

Pics 1 - 3 are of one that stands approx 70 feet (20+ metres) tall by estimations.

The trunk is gorgeous with its smooth, yet slightly mottled and indented surface.

The base looks gnarled and weathered, albeit a typical visual feature of gums.

Last pic is of two (with differing visual shapes) #gumtrees growing near the roadside and tram tracks.

They’re hearty, resilient and are as #Aussie as a meat pie and sauce!

This curious fella came out and looked me up and down when photographing flowers near his home in #McKinnon #Australia late last week.

He/she picked up a piece of bread from the grass and methodically walked away, slowly after assessing I was no threat.

I saw another #magpie earlier in my travels and broke open a packet of crackers I had in the car for lunch but that one didn’t want a bar if it. Was probably hankering for meat!

Looking at that clever #magpie makes me think that a #corvid world tour would be pretty awesome.

Travel to different countries, spend time with the local #raven, #rook, #crow, #bluejay, and other #corvid communities, try to befriend one or two, see what's similar and different between them.

@NessaUndreza we live opposite a park that gets inundated by pink & greys and magpies. The magpies bring their babies over into our yard every year and they are so cheeky. If we ignore them they get onto the back of the chairs and tap on the windows.

Those little #daisies are out again in the evening sunshine before sunset.

I wanted to post these again (via a revisit just now, posted them late evening a few days ago)… just because (they’re gorgeous).

And bc they’re a little pick me up, if youre in need of one!
