“If Nixon wins again, we’re in real trouble.” He picked up his drink, then saw it was empty and put it down again. “That’s the real issue this time,” he said. “Beating Nixon. It’s hard to even guess how much damage those bastards will do if they get in for another four years.”

I nodded. The argument was familiar. I had even made it myself, here and there, but I was beginning to sense something very depressing about it. How many more of these goddamn elections are we going to have to write off as lame but “regrettably necessary” holding actions? And how many more of these stinking, double-downer sideshows will we have to go through before we can get ourselves straight enough to put together some kind of national election that will give me and the at least 20 million people I tend to agree with a chance to vote for something, instead of always being faced with that old familiar choice between the lesser of two evils?

Question for UK and European friends: what temperature do you keep your home thermostat set on in the winter? Curious to see how it compares with people in the US and with what I've been doing.

@carcosa I live in a multi-tenant block and we have our apartment’s heating turned nearly all the way down. With the neighbors doing the heating it is about 18°C in here, which by Swiss standards is considered cold.

I was such an OS/2 fanboy in the early/mid 90s, that this idea is immensely appealing to me. Unfortunately, my recent efforts at getting OS/2 running under qemu-kvm/libvirt have been not very successful (mainly can't get a working combination of ethernet driver and emulated card), so this would have to be pretty back burner for me.

EDIT: this was supposed to be a reply to a post saying someone should make a Mastodon client for OS/2 and call it OS/Toot, but I hit the wrong key in mastodon.el.

@carcosa I _loved_ OS/2. It was so far ahead of Windows at the time; I really wish it had caught on.

TIL that Tramp, #Emacs's remote file access infrastructure, supports adb as a backend protocol. Imagine that!
