This seems like a nice gesture, but I hope it doesn't split the .Net community. Mono is pretty legacy at this point, but maybe Wine have some real need for it.

#Telegram and #Durov are once again in the media, so I translated my May piece about the service to English:

Telegram is neither "secure" nor "encrypted"
rys.io/en/171.html

Calling Telegram "secure" or "encrypted" is misleading, and is journalistic malpractice.

Telegram itself seems to mislead about it on purpose.

Telegram's encryption protocol is suspicious and transmits cleartext device identifiers with every message.

They have been called out for it many times, and refuse to change.

@rysiek also, long time ago Russian crypto researchers discovered what dh params for e2e in telegram generated on server-side, but i do not know if it's fixed yet or not...
Random Geek

@rysiek okay this is the one I was stalking through your feed for. Gonna need to talk to some friends about switching off Telegram.

kroy

@rysiek When the Russian State media makes a press release saying how secure Telegram is, I'm guessing it's probably not.

Just sayin.

This slide from CEDEC 2024:
- Tears of the Kingdom is using Dear ImGui,
- interestingly: Nintendo use tools to track who placed certain objects in the world, in order to facilitate tracking/discussing intent among designers and other team members.

Making info readily available in a prime location makes great difference in a large team, for people eg to not step over each others blindly.

@ocornut It's been years I keep thinking about that one slide in BOTW about them having an ingame option to leave message in the world to comment or bug report. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who is obsessed by that.

oh my fucking god. so i was having a problem when i enabled optimizations when compiling the doom port. memcpy ended up overwriting itself. so i looked into what was happening, and apparently memcpy just kept calling itself over and over. the reason? i was compiling my own version of memcpy, because i wasn't using the standard library, but i also didn't use the "-ffreestanding" flag, so gcc assumed i *did* have the standard library. so gcc, in its infinite wisdom, saw a memcpy-like pattern in my memcpy and turned it into another call to memcpy, resulting in a stack overflow.

Insert Jurassic Park quotes here.

Ben Hutchings

@nil You can also use -fno-builtin-memcpy to disable this optimisation (and similar options for other standard library functions)

In re JSON causing problems, I would rather deal with JSON than yet another bespoke 'simpler' format. I have plenty of tools that can deal with JSON in generally straightforward ways and approximately none that work on your specific new simpler format. Awk may let me build a tool, depending on what your format is, and Python definitely will, but I don't want to.

This is re: infosec.exchange/@tychotithonu

Haelwenn /элвэн/ :triskell:
@cks And with CSV the quoting/escaping rules are a mess that most tools fail to grok (AWK included).
Lisa

@cks Depends on the data really, JSON has its uses, CSV has its uses, even XML and ini/conf has its uses.

But yeah, bespoke formats rarely do though.

Michael Darweesh ☑️

@cks That's how I felt about XML back when it was getting used in configs everywhere.
It's not a great format, but at least it has tools and standardized structure enforcement.

Telegram has full access to all of the content of group chats and regular one-to-one chats due to lack of end-to-end encryption. Their opt-in secret chats use homegrown end-to-end encryption with weaknesses. Deleting the content from the app likely won't remove all copies of it.

GrapheneOS

Telegram has heavily participated in misinformation campaigns targeting actual private messaging apps with always enabled, properly implemented end-to-end encryption such as Signal. Should stop getting any advice from anyone who told you to use Telegram as a private messenger.

WerySkok :verified_think:

@GrapheneOS while there are actual security concerns about Telegram's way of handling data, there has been no known case of the messenger disclosing actual conversations, which means that they still respect the privacy of their users, even if it only stands on their word of honor.

Also, claims about lack of moderation are also fake, Telegram is known for banning channels and users for various reasons.

Overall, all of this is a test of a right for privacy, which Telegram actually was respecting

The conversation around gaming on Linux has changed significantly during the last several years. It’s a success story engineered by passionate developers working on the Linux kernel and the open-source graphics stack (and certainly bolstered by the Steam Deck).

Don’t worry, this isn’t going to be a history lesson, but it’s an appropriate way to introduce yet another performance victory Linux is claiming over Windows.

@killyourfm I've recently got a racing wheel and been playing some racing games on the Framework 13 with Ryzen 5, and it blows me away how well it runs games at 1080p. Also Linux compatibility has been great.

Idaho

@killyourfm gaming on Linux is great but it still has many things to improve upon in order to be on par with the ease of use it has on windows, using dedicated apps and scripts to make games work is not ideal and it can and often constrict the support for said games to very specific versions which is not so desirable, some work should be done to support easier game installations and not only running the games themselves...

Professor Code

@killyourfm Which version of Steam did you use, though? Is it the one from the RPMFusion repo or the Flatpak?

I've realized that the infection written in Rust is spreading on my computer like a virus. The legacy of GNU Utils, carried through the decades by the community, is gradually becoming clear. Instead of cd, l have zoxide, for ls it's eza. Behemoths have also made room: tmux for zellij , nvim for helix , and so on.
