I'm available for speaking gigs in 2025, if your conference or team is interested in talks/workshops on #CSS!

I love to go in-depth on the classics –cascade, grids, alignment, etc. But I can also teach the new hits: container queries, colors, layers, :has(), et al.

Let's get scheduled!

@mia I can do online or in person. But I can't do Florida or Texas, or anywhere else that my existence is outlawed.

If cool URIs don't change, maybe they shouldn't be managed by landlords and rented on a year-to-year basis.

(it seems to me that avoiding link rot should be treated as a platform issue, not a slogan for scolding people who didn't successfully predict the future or treat a webpage as a lifelong commitment)

Firefox released the first prototype of #CSS Masonry back in 2020, as an extension to Grid layout. Now Safari TP has it as well, while Chrome is working on an alternate proposal.

I've been enjoying the discussions, and the way both proposals have improved because of the debate.

But what's the current status, what's next, and what's at stake?

@geoff beat me to the publish button today, but I guess we're all watching the same discussions. 😅

His post on @csstricks is excellent. If you're interested in more, check that one out as well:

Do you want a deeper understanding of #CSS? Not just the individual properties, but how they work together? From cascading, to custom properties, layout, and organization?

I have a workshop coming up with @smashingconf, that covers exactly that:

5 online sessions, October 14–28

@mia @smashingconf I'm very excited to be able to join this!

Quick question for you: there's a possibility that I may have an interruption on the last day. I forgot I have an HVAC maintenance person coming. Will that be a critical day? I realize I'll have access to the sessions after the fact as well.

The CSSWG as agreed to publish a first Working Draft for Masonry layout – with the two major proposals merged where possible, and otherwise presented side by side. Most of the differences are syntax only.

Here's the Editor's Draft that will be published:

"Jamstack": because even when we're backing slowly away from single page architectures, it's essential to remind everyone that JS comes before markup, and CSS isn't worth mentioning.
