We just don't want to. Everyone going on about how can these AI companies just use IP and no one cares... ah, my sweet summer children. Get me drunk and ask me about the Sony rootkit one of these days. One of my first big Wired stories! Oh, poor Dan. Then ask a cajun fisherman about Deepwater Horizon. Or just look at Boeing right fucking now. Companies don't have to follow laws if they don't want to. And if someone does get mad, it's a few meetings, maybe a small fine, and everyone is sweet again. I know I'm supposed to feel sorry for Crowdstrike rank and file. But I mostly feel sorry for their victims/customers. I suppose I can also feel sorry for anyone who didn't understand what kind of company they went to work for, but they should be trying to get a job elsewhere by now. Young people are waking up every day to media about war, genocides, dead children. They are unsure of being able to make a living, scared by debt, violence, addiction, homelessness. They are unsure if the burning planet will even support their lives. They are struggling for secure basic housing after having their lives upended by a pandemic... meanwhile the NYT:

@quinn it's just a way to dilute the argument and weaken support for any solution, if you can add ever more "but ifs", in order to both-side & all-sides, and hand the destructive status quo a win.
@quinn I'm old enough to remember a wave of posts about using blockchain to...do something...that would solve global warming. At least it gave me lots of people to block on LinkedIn.
@quinn Exactly. Take the billions away from the billionaires, use them to solve the problems.
