There was a temporary problem on OVH Object Storage public-cloud.status-ovhcloud.c that caused the instances on Masto.host to become slow or unresponsive.

The issue is starting to clear and it should all be working normally now.

Sorry for the inconvenience and if you notice any issues, please let me know.

Thanks 🐘

Currently there is an issue on Let's Encrypt that is causing a failure to generate new TLS certificates: letsencrypt.status.io/

So, the installation of new Mastodon servers on Masto.host will take longer than usual

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Currently Masto.host is experiencing the highest volume of traffic that has ever reached the infrastructure.

The service is partially degraded and I will be doing fast upgrades on the platform.

These can lead to partial downtime, errors and large delays in support requests.

Really sorry. Doing the best I can on my end. Hope you understand. Thanks.

A few hours ago Mastodon v4.0.0 was release.

But I have bad news!

I will not be upgrading servers on Masto.host to v4.0.0.
.
.
.
Because v4.0.1 was just released and so we will go straight to v4.0.1 πŸ˜‚

I am currently testing and preparing everything to start the upgrade.

As soon as I have more information I will announce it here.

ohhh, that good sweet thought of "my bot that I wrote to make constant backups of my profile feed will break completely because it works by scraping the static HTML, which Mastodon nuked in the new version" πŸ’€

Currently there is an issue on the Masto.host network. I'm investigating and will provide more information as soon as possible.

So, what happened was that one of the web servers (host 2) was struggling and I decided to upgrade it like I did yesterday for (host 1): mastodon.social/@mastohost/109

Yesterday it was really smooth and the upgrade to the cloud instance only caused 90 seconds of downtime.

Today, everything went wrong:
- the network interface for the private IP changed
- when changing the configuration to the new network interface and doing a network restart, it just stopped responding

About an hour ago, there was a ~5 minute downtime in the Masto.host network due to an issue with our network provider: network.status-ovhcloud.com/in

Sorry for the inconvenience but all is looking good now and if you are still having any issue please get in touch. Thanks.

@mastohost ahhhhh it was OVH! now I understand! I was so confused cause this instance was down but also sunbeam.city and I was like how are they both down at the same time!

I have decided to commit to a limit on the maximum number of instances or percentage of the Mastodon network that I will host on Masto.host.

You can read about it here: masto.host/the-25-percent-comm

what about the number of users, and why are you defining the limit by mastodon software specifically?

@mastohost fair. Thanks a lot for the work !

So it is possible to export (migrate) an instance from your service ? This could be really interesting for me (and my colleagues). What is the format of this export ? Or maybe it's documented somewhere...

@mastohost thanks hugo for keeping everyone running strong and stable. i think this is a good plan as it helps the fediverse to be more diverse. i'm not sure what the amount of single-user instances/family instances is, but i would exclude them from your calculation, because they don't make the majority of the fediverse. i encourage everyone to get into selfhosting once they started to tinker with linux servers to help the network. i mean i was questioning it as well how you can host an instance for as little as 6€/month in the base config. keep on doing that good work and happy hosting!
