 Trained image generators kind of ruined my life, or at least ruined my ability to generate freelance income as an illustrator. So when I block your account for its contant stream of bland, wasteful imagery (where literally ANY original version would be more charming) it's not an irrational act of anger just a simple move towards self-preservation and mental health. Growing up, I had three sisters. One of them was a quiet child, often angry or sullen and sometimes cruel. One day that person went away. And then I had a brother. He was cheerful and warm, finally comfortable in a body he'd wanted his entire life. Conservatives want to eradicate my brother. I'm here to say that's not going to happen.

@Gustodon @cstross I donβt think most people in my workplace noticed that the bright, happy woman who started managing our IT walk-up Help Desk bore a striking resemblance to quiet man who used to huddle in the a back corner. If you have any empathy at all, seeing the before and after is amazing. I canβt figure out how to communicate this to people who are lacking in empathy. |

I am not an illustrator but normally I block any account that use of or speak well about these technology for the same reasons. We should be many.

Even beyond just the ethical reasons, AI slop just looks so unsettling to me.
I can't help but notice all the weird details that are off. Then, once I notice them, they get weirder and weider the more I look.
I've tried pointing that out to people who I see routinely posting AI slop like, "Hey, do you notice how in that picture you posted, Santa's gloves look like they might have fingernails, but in a really unsettling, subtle way that makes it so you're never quite sure?"
That sure as hell would make me seriously reconsider using that kind of garbage if it were me, but nope. Ended up having to mute them.
