i wonder, if finnish wasn't a well-studied european language but a recently encountered language spoken by a small hunter-gatherer tribe in the amazonas, would the 50-100 finnish noun inflection types, which are purely coincidental because of historical phonological changes, get analyzed as semantically motivated noun classes.
