Lots of Orchard Orioles arrived in the last few days here. This one is a male in his second year on the planet.

I think the two most abundant birds here right now are Yellow Warbler and Blue-gray Gnatcatcher. I happened to catch them both in the same frame this morning. Photographed near Manhattan KS

A male Summer Tanager who hatched out last summer can have some interesting looks. They will have red feathers and yellow feathers in varying proportions and in varying locations. This one might be called the Red-banded Tanager.

I think it might have been the first day back on the summer territory for this male Painted Bunting, since he was singing from a hidden perch, perhaps to keep out of sight of another male Painted Bunting in the area. But it was great to hear that voice again!

The American Goldfinches go through some pretty raggedy looks during molting season each spring. I think we can say, for this one at least, that all of that is behind him!
