not a ton of progress to report but a small update -- more of this is drawn from actual data as opposed to hard coded instructions. making good backgrounds using only the same 4 colors will likely be a bit challenging. probably preaching to the choir about this but it's really frustrating to come back to old game projects and find out they don't work anymore. #uxn isn't a perfect target for my games but at least it's a manageable one that is unlikely to rot away into nothingness. @d6 I know the feels :'( When I look at all the iOS and Unity projects that have all turned to dust due to API changes, it must amount to thousands of hours lost to crafting these little worlds that will never be visited again. And when I see the incredible rate at which our Electron apps are degrading now, I feel like this whole bunch is about to join the rest at any moment. awhile ago I prototyped a gaming aid that uses a thermal printer to generate stuff (hirelings, NPCs, weather, foods/drinks/potions, monsters, events, maps, mazes, puzzles, etc). The output can be filed away for later reference. I built it because I don’t like using computers/screens at the table. during COVID this device wasn’t useful but I’m thinking of picking it back up, refining it, and posting a build guide. if you play tabletop RPGs does this appeal to you? |
