I'm thinking of buying a car. What is some advice? How do I maintain privacy in a modern car?

Context:

I don’t want the car reporting to insurance hard breaks and such. But frankly I just find these things creepy and I just want a base model car.

Always remember that once you sign the dotted line, there’s no changing your mind later. That’s the advice I received in the Navy from my Chief. This is where doing your homework really pays off.

When buying a car, try to plan ahead ten to twenty years. Most people don’t buy a new car every couple of years, so you’ll need a car that suits your needs for a long time.

Are you planning on getting married and having kids one day? Maybe a minivan. Do you do a lot of trade work? Maybe a pickup truck. Are you just trying to get from point A to point B? Maybe just a regular four-seat car. Planning ahead will save you headaches in the future.

Get something that’s easy to repair yourself, the spare parts are cheap, and are easily obtainable. Some brands are extremely difficult to fix yourself and that’s by design.

As for car internet privacy, I don’t know what to tell you.

What are the "AK-47" of items? (cheap, durable, just works)

This is not a conversation about guns. This is a conversation about items that have withstood abuse that are near unbreakable.

Some items I have heard referenced as AK47 of:

Gerber MP600: It’s a multi tool

Old Thinkpad Laptops

Mag lights

Toyota Hilux

Dr. Quadragon ❌

@POTOOOOOOOO the Stratocaster, when it comes to guitars.

It's not just cheap, it's designed to be cheap, all measurements are standardized, so accessories and parts are abundant, including custom ones. Hell, it doesn't even need to come from Fender, every guitar manufacturer can make a Strat - and they do! You can pick up a no-name Chinese one and gut it and replace all electronics and furniture and get a very decent instrument. Even Epiphone - Gibson's sub - makes their own Strats.

You can make it in mahagony if you want, or some other exotic wood, much as you can make a gold AK-47 with all fancy tacticool gear, yes, but you know, ash or basswood work. A rifle is fine.

It's low maintenence. It doesn't really need a gloss finish, it looks great and sounds great, even if it's beat down a bit. Sometimes, especially when it's beat down a bit.

It can be used in the widest variety of different contexts and genres and what not. It might not be ideal for everything - but it's good enough.
