Is it verified that the Intel Management Engine (possible backdoor CPU inside the CPU) wasn't added until the Intel i series (i3, i5, i7) first gen?

If so, do Core 2 Duo and similar era CPUs not have it?

Just curious what you know about the actual privacy concerns or if they are just rumors.

@retroedgetech I had a ThinkPad T60 with Core 2 T7200 CPU.

You can build a Coreboot image without microcode, but Lenovo's BIOS has it.

Latest ThinkPads that can run without microcode are T400, W500, X200 and similar. Check out the Libreboot wiki.

Upgrading a #ThinkPad T480 right now. Impressive laptop.

The one thing that I think is a bad design is the main storage drive bay. Wish they did would have just had a full length m.2 slot directly on the motherboard. The T480 design relies on specific cable and adapter board that will likely be difficult to obtain if you need the SATA version instead of the m.2 version or if the one you have malfunctions, is lost or broken.

It also seems to be picky about memory modules. I had to try quite a few before finding an acceptable combination of two 8GB memory modules.
