A friendly reminder: if you have a variable font, you can easily adjust the weight for light and dark themes at no extra cost.

In the video, notice how the font stays visually consistent, even though the weight changes a bit to maintain that look.

@yeptype for me it didn't compensate that much. The black-on-white text still looks thinner than white-on-black even after your adjustment. Perhaps that depends on the screen size and varies from person to person

Here’s an optical trick for designing italic fonts: keep the vertical stem at the regular slant, but add extra slant to the bowls to bring more energy and dynamism to the character.

Setting UI font metrics to ensure text appears vertically centered is a core principle at Yep! Type.

All my fonts follow this rule and will continue to do so. This ensures that text labels are balanced within containers like buttons and list items, and align perfectly with icons.

It’s a small detail that makes a big difference in digital design.
