@j12t Very few people *really* understand CSS... I love it, but it can be a lot, especially for high end use cases. The ramp from obvious to wtf is incredibly short. Glad I brought my sweater. And there are sometimes some wet drops that fall out of the sky. Clearly Portland is not California. #xoxo Marveling, as so often, how it is that while #covid numbers are as high as they are, maybe just 2 out of every 100 people at the airport and on the plane wear a mask. In the grand scheme of things, just how much bother is a mask, in comparison? XOXO, here I come. Looking forward to meeting like-minded people. Reach out and say Hi 🙂 One of the best features of the Apple ecosystem is cross-device copy-paste. I don't know what exactly triggers it, but it works more often than not, and it soooo beats doing an brief ssh connection (which, with a firewall, takes a bit of work to set up) or, heavens forbid, a USB stick. P.S. Is there something similar in open-source land? (Not a trivial project) Missile statistics from #ukraine https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2024/08/20/7471189/ A great quote from @timbray : “So I think the #Fediverse is actually existentially important to the quality and success of human discourse—and it’s by a wide margin I think the most interesting thing that’s going on in the whole human-oriented technology landscape.” Yep! From https://fediverse-governance.github.io “Non-centralized” as opposed to “decentralized” … because it didn’t start out centralized… interesting #fediverse framing in https://fediverse-governance.github.io Thesis: when you are building a software platform, the abstractions are the main product. Parallel: in a consumer product, the UI/UX is the main product. Both need to work, of course, but for the customer, that’s merely table stakes. Since January, @kissane and I have been researching governance on Mastodon and Hometown servers of about 80-2000 people. That research is now available!!! Longer post(s) to come after the morning school rush, but! The Fediverse governance research @darius and I have been working on this year—with the absolutely central participation of so many wonderful Mastodon and Hometown server teams—is out: https://write.as/fediversalist-papers/releasing-our-findings

The "IBM Institute for Business Value" wants me to buy something from them. I wonder what the demographic looks like that gets a pitch from them and reacts: Oh, I really need to get that. @j12t That same company that helped the Nazis track Jews, the crippled, Slavs and other ethnic groups during WWII ? Hu-uh... But we should focus on the present, right? Like with what happened with the RedHat and HashiCorp acquisitions... what Business Values are they promoting exactly? Yeah I would pass too 🙃 |
@j12t It was! We'll have it up in a few weeks.
@j12t Did she speak about her recent Fedi governance drop? I’m reading through it now (slowly!) and feel like it’s essential work for any nerd like me building in this space. Would love to watch the talk if it’s recorded.
