So...my neighborhood library reopened today after a year of renovations. Of course, I ran over as soon as I could.
The place is cleaner, a fresh coat of paint, new carpet, new windows, some rearranging of the floor plan. There's now a soundproofed Teen Room and a computer room for tutoring or distance working. In the basement there's a new history room, a rehabbed meeting room....and the big surprise....TWO RECORDING STUDIOS.
Yup, my local library has recording studios, complete with mixing boards and all that stuff. One of the volunteers there told me that they anticipate converting them to video in a few years. Now musicians can record demos, or locals can do a podcast, or their own YouTube content.
You have to take a (free) class on how to work the studios and their equipment, but otherwise the studios are free to anyone with a library card.
Damn, that's cool.

@Vagrarian
Woah, that's... pretty awesome!
Wish my local library did that!
Actually, mine has been shut for 2 1/2 years for renovations as part of the town hall rebuild, so who knows?
Okay, I doubt it, but I can dream...
@ErrolNZ
@Vagrarian That's pretty great. My library had a big refurb a while ago which added a whole bunch of instruments into the music section. So what before was a quiet room of sheet music and the like became a bustling musical room with lots of young people messing around having a go on instruments and stuff. It was a jarring change for a few minutes but that quickly gave way to seeing how awesome it was! And in a big space, surprisingly unobtrusive.
@Vagrarian that's amazing!!
