@onlmaps I'm probably stating the obvious to someone who posts about maps, but have you seen Edward Brooke-Hitching's books on atlases? They're very beautifully illustrated.

@onlmaps What gets me about some of these maps, I'm thinking of some of the ones in the Times Atlas of World History, is that there will be a map showing movements of peoples across a continent over a couple of centuries, and at some point there will be a tiny dotted arrow with a question mark ...

... and that tiny dotted arrow with a question mark represents some academic's life's work.
