@starfrost The only earlier versions would have been QDOS 0.11 (Quick and Dirty OS) which was finished in August 1980. It was renamed to 86-DOS that fall. Interestingly, the license/contract which Seattle Computer Products had with Microsoft allowed them to continue to sell 86-DOS and all future versions of it so long as it was bundled with one of their computers. SCP originally sold a S-100 bus 8086 computer (for which they needed an OS). Usually half-life has 300-600 players online at any one time, which is nuts for a 25 year old game. But valve adding actual features and having a three day long, 100% off sale has pushed the player count to 14,000 and counting. HL DM is unplayable. The master server is collapsing and can't report how many players are online on a server, you'll click on a server that's allegedly 1/4th full and it'll be "32 / 32" And it's great! @starfrost@wetdry.world thank you for posting about this, I know nothing about Half Life but I have just obtained it for free lol @starfrost had the most 2000s experience possible today. absolute chaos on a deathmatch server, people blasting music through VC, all the things and it was really fun. missed that a lot.. |
