Lifetime Plex Pass subscriber - but finding it a little frustrating how finicky it is, and how randomly bugs just pop up because FYTY.

Would love to hear other experiences, especially if they are "just use jellyfin, it's great/easy" 😂

@xeyr

Been a lifetime pass user for a long long time and even before I had the pass.

I added a while back to try it, adding two out of 3 main remote users to it. Both of them use it over Plex almost all the time (one is just knowledgable enough that if ANYTHING happens on Jellyfin, he'll switch to Plex to see if it's better, even if it's his connection buffering).

Recently, girlfriend's mother decided she would like to see what I have on the server again, she's not all that technical but we've got her setup with an Nvidia shield for her tv and a kindle fire tablet and since she uses our wifi, it's not that bad to support any issues.

She hated it still, because for simplicity we tried her again with Plex which is what she had used for a little before. So we tried Jellyfin. Immediately, she figured it out & loved it. There wasn't all the extra crap thrown at her about Plex paid services or other locations to find things, etc that confused / irritated her.

That got the girlfriend to ask why I hadn't set her up with Jellyfin yet, which was simply that she doesn't like change either so wasn't sure if she'd like it or not. She's now switched over completely.

I've got two friends that still use Plex over Jellyfin, simply because I haven't told either of them. One uses a smart tv that I'm not sure will have Jellyfin client right off (Vizio) and the other hadn't been on server in like a year or more but just recently showed up again.

Even more recently, I've even moved over my own music from to Jellyfin with the app on my phone (Paid, has a week trial or so - play.google.com/store/apps/det ) and it's really been working out great. Though to be fair, I could have changed the app out and still used Navidrome or a bunch of other backends for serving files, I just went about changing both at the same time to test everything.

I guess in conclusion, at this point if I can get those two friends moved over, I really don't need to be running Plex anymore and everything just works, even for low tech users and in some ways, even better for them after the initial setup.

That and I should really try to donate to the Jellyfin project soon ;)
