There are 12,000 people following this account 🥳 , but only ~2,000 people are members of the OpenStreetMap Foundation 😔 . Take your #OSM support to the next level by becoming a member of the OpenStreetMap Foundation today! 🚀 <https://supporting.openstreetmap.org/#Membership-Categories>
It's even available for free 😍 if you've “consistently made sizeable contributions to OpenStreetMap” (explain in the application, or edit OSM for 42+ days in the last yr.)

“Help Us Grow and Diversify OSMF Membership Worldwide”
Hundreds of thousands of people have contributed map data to #OpenStreetMap, but just under 2,000 of them are members of the OpenStreetMap Foundation, the legal body which supports (but does not control) the OSM project.

OSM has improved our anti-spam & anti-vandalism methods. We've added very generous rate limits to map edits for new account. By reducing vandalism, your map gets better. Life is easier for the rest of the volunteers who fix spam & vandalism.
If you're hitting this limit, then just slow down, take it easy, and continue mapping at a sensible speed. 🙂 Don't run before you can walk!

Do you use the OSM API directly? Make an OSM App? We're dropping support for certain insecure, legacy authentication methods. If you're using them in your app, it risks breaking! _(If this is gibberish to you, you're probably not affected)_
OSM API will remove support for HTTP Basic Auth, & OAuth 1.0a. You'll have to migrate to the modern OAuth 2.0 feature, which is very well supported.

OpenStreetMap data is free, we only ask that you tell people about us in exchange¹.
Some site use OSM without attribution, *and* hotlink to OSMF tile servers. 😭 Our data is free, but our servers cost time & money. 🖥 It's now even easier for you to report naughty sites like that. 📝 They can (eventually) be blocked from freeloading. We hope this will increase visibility of OSM! 👍 🎉

@openstreetmap i wish there was a way people could help out, like peer 2 peer / bitorrent style donating of bandwidth
i live in Australia, surely the majority of people around me are looking for aussie places so it makes sense if i could host a small part of osm and ease the server load for australians looking for australian places
Congratulations to our own Tom Hughes ( @tomh ) who made it on to the OpenUK (@openuk) New Year's Honours list, which recognises top UK open source influencers!
😍🥳🙇🗺🔎🏆👨🏻💻👏👏
Tom is one of the maintainers of the OpenStreetMap website. Both the software that you see in your browser, and the the hardward in the backend that keeps everything running.

OSMF AGM news: Unfortunately, we've found a bug in recording all OSMF membership renewals, so people who are entitled to vote might not have received their ballot yet.
At the OSMF AGM later today, the members will be asked to postpone the GM for a week, until 15:00 UTC Saturday, 16th December 2023, to allow people to vote. More on this as it develops.
