When I first started out I found it helpful to search and follow hashtags of interest to find accounts to follow.

Chirp.social, a.gup.pe groups, and lemmy communities are federated with mastodon and you can interact from your account by following a particular group and tagging them in individual posts you want to share in a particular group.
