Blockchains are a data structure with a ton of good uses; see https://www.ibm.com/blockchain/use-cases/ . It's like steel.

Bitcoin uses blockchains. Bitcoin (and other cryptocurrencies) are dependent on blockchains, but not at all the other way around. Bitcoin may be like ICE vehicles or guns, but that's not the fault of the steel in them. And the steel has wide beneficial uses.
