Happy Caturday, everyone! Lola Falafel is on my case, letting me know Saturday’s no time to slack off … I should be updating her website I’m planning on adding at least one post today … and remember, you don’t have to wait for #Caturday to visit! Look at that noble profile. Lola Falafel is mesmerized by an enormous crow in the tree outside the living room window. I’ve tried to develop a relationship with the local corvids over the years; talking to and leaving food for them. Once one gifted me with a feather it preened from its wing. Lola and I are both looking forward to opening the windows again, when spring stops being a tease and becomes the real thing. The Amazing Live Lola Cam is now, in fact … live! https://lookatmykitty.com/the-amazing-live-lolacam/ The “amazing” part is more than a little overstated; if she’s in her big chair, she’s more than likely snoozing, as she is this snapshot. But it’s still pretty amazing that I got it working! As you may know, I’ve launched a website for my cat … If you can, check it out on a desktop or laptop computer … it works on a phone or tablet, but not as well. I’m planning on adding another feature – the LolaCam®! It arrived yesterday, and this morning I got it working via WiFi … the next challenge will be getting it to stream on her site. (Harder than it sounds, as I don’t want to pay anyone for the privilege.) An IP camera just arrived for livestreaming Lola the kitty in her favorite living room chair, via Right now, it’s plugged into the ethernet router in my studio … but once I get it linked via WiFi, it will be the dedicated LolaCam! The hurdle will be getting a livestream going without using a paid service that charges an arm and a leg. Please indulge me … I’ve been working on this for two days, and I’m taking advantage of #Caturday to roll it out. This is my last promo, I promise. (This week, anyway.) I *think* I’ve got the cache issues worked out. I’m not one for selfies, but it’s even more difficult with Lola Falafel on my shoulder, trying to eat my hair. Lola uses her paws more than any cat I’ve ever known. I say “pretty girl” to her, and she reaches out to give me a low five. Or four – I’m not sure offhand. But I know it hits me in the feels. The squirrels are back in abundance, and Lola Falafel is fascinated. She leapt into the kitchen’s north window to watch as they romped around the back yard. One frisky pair moved out of sight around the northwest corner, and Lola jumped to the west, as if to follow them. I thought “how cute – she thinks she can still see them!” To my surprise, she went straight to the west window – and there they were. The look on her face was like, “No shit, Sherlock.” Smart kitty. After a long day at the Nonlinear Labs C15, Lola Falafel decides it’s time for forty winks. The C15 actually has its own built-in web server, so the monitor usually displays its user interface … when it’s not sleeping, too. Here’s Lola Falafel, catching some morning rays on the sofa. We’ve been together two weeks now, and she’s all settled in. I’ve never experienced such a brazenly affectionate kitty; life with her is a good thing. Lola loves hanging out in the kitchen … (I think she wants to be sure she doesn’t miss anything when the magic food bowl refills) so I got her a new throw rug, and brought out the hot water bottle for these chilly winter mornings. *** (next pic) We’re talking industrial cat maintenance here! After scarfing down breakfast, Lola keeps an eye on all those pesky birds and squirrels roughing it out in the cold. Just look at that tail! Here’s Lola, on the first morning of her forever home. And you heard it here first; I’m officially keeping the name she came with. I am, however, adding a new middle name: Falafel. Lola Falafel – you have to be of a certain age to catch the pun. (Search for “Lola Fala” if you don’t.) Those long legs give a hint of why I really think she’s part Abyssinian. Any experts out there? I’d love to know what you think. I’m so happy she’s here with me. Here’s my little contribution to the cause … please feel free to pass it along if you like it. (yes, I could have added a trunk … but that would be a little too on-the-nose for me. : ) |
