#Putin's interview was beyond embarrassing, to be honest. Basically his entire argument is that #Ukraine historically belonged to #Russia.

By his own logic, Russia and Ukraine should both be part of Iran because the ancient Scythians (an Iranic people) lived there thousands of years ago, long before the arrival of the Slavic peoples.

This is exactly why I hope we erase natl borders one day and become one global federation. This planet doesn't belong to anyone. We're just guests here.

@nadiaalbelushi by that logic russia is the property of sweden because of viking settlers

@Kierkegaanks @nadiaalbelushi Indeed ยซKyivan Rusยป had its seat in Kyiv and stretched to a swampy wilderness where Moscow is today.

@nadiaalbelushi He knows that โ€œRussiaโ€ comes from โ€œRusโ€, meaning โ€œrowerโ€, eh? For the Vikings (I think) that used to row their shallow draft boats up the rivers? So does Russia belong to Denmark?

Arena Cops ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆโœŒ

@SonofaGeorge @nadiaalbelushi Let's say Russia's Scandinavian property, OK?!

Borders create more problems than they solve.

Never gonna happen as long as humans (and people of different races) exist. It gives humans a sense of belonging and what leaders of all nations (and even states within a country) play with - 'Our people, our land'. Even the Mastodon banner plays with this 'sense of belonging', it subtly points to 'Welcome home - where you belong".

@nadiaalbelushi It's like you're at a fork in the road, and you have to decide which way to go. Either your democracy is little more than a pep rally to organize waves of hatred and outrage on the Internet, or it's an opportunity to gain some perspective by hearing your neighbor's point of view. One of these will lead to global thermonuclear war and the end of civilization, the other will inspire peace.

Tirapheg

@nadiaalbelushi No, the logic is not โ€™who was here firstโ€™. Itโ€™s โ€™how can I benefit the mostโ€™.

Also with a sprinkiling โ€™Iโ€™m a powerful leader and can say what I want without being challengedโ€™. Apparently this works on many people.

In history everybody can find a slot in time to prove they are right.

It is what dictators do to prove their right to invade. Mussolini and Hitler are just recent examples, like Putin.

Man is what we are and our presence on this planet limited. Time we realize it.

It's why the AND matters so much in #TruthANDReconciliation

Once you've gone back 2 or 3 generations it's history, and however much complex detail is true (good or bad) the current generation must reconcile and deal with the current state of the world.

@nadiaalbelushi Agreed, but the last part is confusing. How would a global federation even work? Would we _all_ vote for one president? ๐Ÿค Would all power be decentralized like it is today? Would we switch to (synthetic) technocracy?

You are right. True civilisation should not include the tribalism that is at the root of all wars. You see it even with neighbours who dispute the tiniest strips of land bordering their gardens. Humans will never achieve peace or tackle climate change if they can't work together and abandon tribal rivalry.

Edelruth

@nadiaalbelushi

I really like the concept of global federation. Maybe some later evolution of humans can pull that together.
