I'm all in favor of more security. But that I have to go through special contortions to access files in my Downloads folder with Terminal.app on macOS seems chicanery.

@vid Oh, I have no intent to replace the OS on my macBook. I have plenty of other Linux boxes all around me. @J12t is this a Sonoma thing? I haven’t upgraded yet because I’m waiting for GPGMail; if I had to do any such contortions so far it’s been something I could do once and forget @ShadSterling I think it’s been around for longer. Just usually we grant our apps more and more permissions as the machine gets older and sort of forget about it. Also, there is a “boot into special mode so you can unset the flag” functionality that removes all of this, which i did on my last Mac. @J12t oh, yeah, I did have to boot into the special mode a few times before I got those flags right. A completely unnecessary waste of time |
@J12t have you explored Asahi linux?
