Extremist legislators in Tennessee and Oklahoma -- with more right-wing states on the way -- are looking to ban women from traveling out of state for abortions. They also want to imprison anyone who helps them.

Resistance is not futile. This is fascism and has to be stopped.

@dangillmor@mastodon.social freedom from baby murder does not mean freedom from consequences i guess?

David Croyle

@dangillmor Total BS, that sums up the lengthy rant in my head that I'm not going to type out.

Deep Mud

@dangillmor and this is America, the land of the free? 🙄🙄🙄. Goddamn the fucking right wing!

@deepmud @dangillmor "The land of the free" is such a phenomenally stupid saying anyway. Compared to other western countries with complex social systems that more or less prevent you from not having to fear falling ill or losing your job and therefore becoming homeless etc., US citizens are probably the least "free" people of any western country (as in free of existential fear). Hell, the freaking incarceration statistics basically says it all. US politics are a god damn farce.

@dangillmor and USA still claim they are home of the free

GhostOnTheHalfShell

@dangillmor Um, freedom of travel?

Is that now un American too?

Dan Gillmor

@GhostOnTheHalfShell Just because it's in the Constitution doesn't mean extremists won't try to ban it.

GhostOnTheHalfShell

@dangillmor

Extremists try to ban freedom, originalists try to rationalize it, billionaires pay their rent.

@dangillmor bloody hell! Handmaids Tale is just around the corner…! 🙁🙁

@dangillmor
this isn't even about your whole "pro-life' bs -- this is about imprisoning citizens within their states
What is this, China?

ccampboyle

@dangillmor @lisamelton if you can make women felons, you can keep them from voting.

Pansel Arrington

@dangillmor shouldn’t the “Privelages and Immunities Clause” of the Constitution allowing freedom of travel? Supported by Saenz v Roe with the first of three protected aspects being the right to enter one state and leave another (as an inherent right supported from Articles of the Constitution).

I am not an attorney, but the desperation of these states to turn women into chattel is repulsive and I’m hopeful that we can get rid of the limitations once and for all.

DELETED

@dangillmor the Democratic party had done nothing to stop any of this and is offering no plans to stop any of this

WagesOf
