Me: buys new keyboard as old one was dying, keys flying off and all.

Also me: wants to livestream again, but keyboard is obnoxiously loud in recordings.

Doh. Looking up ways to improve it. Have some squidgy orings on the way to put under the keys. Other suggestions welcome.

@gamingonlinux Just talk louder while you're steaming :blobfoxdealwithitfingerguns:

@gamingonlinux sadly those o-rings don't do much, the switch is 99% the sound. I run the Seattle mech community and have been in the hobby since 2015, best I've ever used was silent switches for sound suppression. Your microphone setup can also make a world of difference. As well, OBS has a sound gate feature built in.

@gamingonlinux could try the usual stuff like lubing stabilizers, stuffing foam into the case, but that’ll only do so much with clicky switches. It’s def easier to try messing with filters and gates in OBS

@gamingonlinux you should look at designedbygg. Best silent mechanical keybs. French layout but it shouldn't be hard to change the caps

@gamingonlinux Depends on how much work you’re willing to put in. You can always look at mods for your particular brand or board itself. Foam, poly-fil, tape mods, switch lube, etc. O-rings can dampen the noise, sure, but they can really mess with the typing feel and they’re not all that popular for a reason. You may not mind them, though.

In short, there’s plenty you can do, and some of it requires more work than other things. But in the end, you won’t eliminate all of the noise.

@gamingonlinux What an opportunity to advice for one more random niche Linux distro that won't solve your problem!

@gamingonlinux
Is your mic directional in any way?
If so, you can try to minimize the clicky clacky with a simple microphone orientation change.
