The article on the AYANEO NEXT LITE handheld with SteamOS Linux was updated, as AYANEO supplied a statement. They're using HoloISO - so this is not official with Valve gamingonlinux.com/2024/01/ayan

@gamingonlinux This still seems like a good thing. Perhaps if it sells well, valve might be more likely to offer #SteamOS to third party hardware vendors. Unless I’m being overly optimistic!

@wizardfrag @gamingonlinux Valve will offer it anyway soon (in Valve Time). But having HoloISO devices marketed as SteamOS might mean some users will associate half-baked solutions like this with Valve’s OS and Linux gaming in general.

@gamingonlinux wonder if there will be any trademark issues with the steam content in this distro

@gamingonlinux This was unexpected. Also I foresee problems seeing that valve said with their own steam os that you had to get a license before you could distribute steam OS on your hardware (due to the steam software on it)

@gamingonlinux Calling it "SteamOS" likely infringes Valve's trademarks.

Also, no-one really trusts Aya to not screw up modifying HoloISO or to build their own AyaNeoOS they were previously working on.
Plus they're fast at dropping device support.
