Hard to tell if a joke or not, when I've gotten an extreme amount of hate for being on Threads and talking about being excited to see the Fediverse expand away from mostly just tech-heads into normie territory 🤷♂️

@gamingonlinux an honest question: isn't it redundant if it's federated anyway? Why do you need another account there? Or am I missing something? (I honestly don't know anything about Threads other than the fact it's a "Meta Twitter" ) @gamingonlinux @gamingonlinux well I think it raises real questions (although hate is never appropriate). It's not like the normies / techies limit is a binary one or that there are only techies on the fediverse. I see a real potential for threads to drag less techy people there and then close the federated doors, which would be a net loss for the fediverse. We've seen google chat do that with xmpp and I don't see why meta would behave differently. @gamingonlinux Throwing disrespect at people for using one platform or the other is absurd. I think the attitude many Mastodon users have of people using Twitter is just as misplaced. You don't know why someone would want or need to use a service. That said, I don't want Meta in the Fediverse. It goes well beyond the prospect of having normies vs tech heads when we're talking about THE most unethical social media corporation on the planet. @gamingonlinux I do not share your enthusiasm for destroying what we are building. |
@gamingonlinux Sorry to hear that! FWIW I think you're great! 💓
