@gamingonlinux an honest question: isn't it redundant if it's federated anyway? Why do you need another account there? Or am I missing something? (I honestly don't know anything about Threads other than the fact it's a "Meta Twitter" )

hate is never really called for. Personally I strongly believe Meta plans to Embrace, Extend, Extinguish, and I really don't see why we would risk that ...

@gamingonlinux well I think it raises real questions (although hate is never appropriate). It's not like the normies / techies limit is a binary one or that there are only techies on the fediverse.

I see a real potential for threads to drag less techy people there and then close the federated doors, which would be a net loss for the fediverse.

We've seen google chat do that with xmpp and I don't see why meta would behave differently.

@gamingonlinux Throwing disrespect at people for using one platform or the other is absurd. I think the attitude many Mastodon users have of people using Twitter is just as misplaced. You don't know why someone would want or need to use a service.

That said, I don't want Meta in the Fediverse. It goes well beyond the prospect of having normies vs tech heads when we're talking about THE most unethical social media corporation on the planet.

I'd like to see the Fediverse improve & attract users AWAY from giant data vacuuming US corporations rather than see the Fediverse capitulate to them.

I do not share your enthusiasm for destroying what we are building.
