In other news, Discourse, the free forum platform, is now joining the Fediverse.

Yep, Discourse forums will become compatible with Mastodon!

@ploum yayyy, another forum-like platform on the fediverse. Good for groups for certain topics. Is it an opt-in process like on WordPress?

@ploum

#Discourse, you mean the org using cloudfront.net (AWS), a tool to gather lots of personal data and make the Internet a capitalist private network infrastructure for its website?

What a huge progress for a free distributed world we can trust, for sure!

Stu

@aeinstein @ploum you can run Discourse on whatever hosting you want. Come on.

@aeinstein @ploum hey it seems you don’t understand your posts are public. For instance the one you just made, that I am replying to, is at this URL: infosec.exchange/@aeinstein/11

If you dislike this you should probably find another platform.

@ploum one corporate raider such as Facebook could sabotage the fediverse, But perhaps many greedy companies who are trying to control this resource, all at the same time, could cancel each other out and solve any threats.

@ploum Good timing, I plan to selfhost it soon.

@ploum still no replacement for Usenet. Really missed.

@Jtuchel : while not as fluid as Usenet, I really like #gemini, which is somewhere between Usenet and the 2000’s blogosphere. Perfect for me :-)

ploum

@Jtuchel : then you should really investigate it: geminiprotocol.net/

I’ve my own command-line gemini client : sr.ht/~lioploum/offpunk/ (in case you like CLI).

Also quite a few geminauts here, you can find them through #gemini hashtag.

once you have a client, the best way to start explore is Antenna: gemini://warmedal.se/~antenna/ (but there are many places which feels more like BBS).
