What are good reasons for choosing one #fediverse instance over another?

As of yesterday, there is a good one: blocking policy.

Many users in my feed seem surprised that they can’t follow the (very few) threads.net accounts that are active in the fediverse as of right now, and that’s because their instance blocks meta.

Other good reasons are moderation policy, funding model, likely sustainability over the long term etc. But none of them are as clear cut as blocking meta or not.

@J12t yes, all the things that were important about choosing where in the fediverse to reside last week are now secondary to whether or not your chosen place gives you access to the Torment Nexus. obviously. let's center the Torment Nexus.

@djsundog I did not advocate in favor of instances that don’t block, did I? Nor that do block? It works both ways… and it’s a binary choice, while every other criteria is more fuzzy. That’s all I said.

@J12t out of interest, does following any of the Threads accounts work for you? Tusky and web UI only show that I sent a follow request.

@supergrobi works for me. Check your instance’s threads block policy.

@J12t @Saupreiss also thinks I wouldn't see them in the first place if Threads was blocked (my admin @permanizer hasn't yet answered that question)

Is social.coop running on Mastodon, and would you mind stating the version?
