@SwiftOnSecurity I recently fixed a $2k laptop this way. Everyone thought it was totally dead, but it started right up after I removed the CMOS battery for half an hour.

@hazel @SwiftOnSecurity I have a laptop I pulled the drive out of and put in storage until I could get the charge port replaced. Plugged it in the other day and the correct lights came on. Next step is reinstall the drive and try it. Then I have to figure out getting around the password I forgot years ago or get it online without access.

@hazel @SwiftOnSecurity my elitebook occasionally does this. Total bios freeze up but the fix is just unplugging the battery and all power sources and then it’s fine…

Tried to revive a Panasonic Toughbook once, couldn't find anything wrong with it power supply end, all batteries removed, surface mount fuses checked but it was completely dead, I'll never know why alas...

@hazel @SwiftOnSecurity I have recently started watching a YouTube channel where some guy just repairs things, primarily electronic.

It is amazing how many things he fixes with just little tweaks. Sometimes just disassembling and reassembling the thing seems to fix the problem.

But computers and electronics are still such black boxes for so many people.
