 😢 Preaching to the choir but apparently it's true that some opportunists scrape Maxar's key for OSM editors, for their own selfish purpose. Hot take: When I began mapping in 2013, there's only Bing imagery available near my locality. It's hardly usable (Landsat!) and like it or not, I've got to gather the data in a convoluted way. Mapbox only came into scene after 2 years time, and finally DigitalGlobe (now Maxar) lent a hand in 2016. |

But then again OSM's data is not mainly tracing from imageries. Thanks to many creative (and thoughtful) OSM-linked developers, at least there's apps for collecting map data. Probably without satellite background layers.
