As part of our work to allow apps to register support for a specific URL domain;

Checkout @tbernard mockups for what a new unified “Open With” dialog would look like.

I'm very excited about this and might be able to deprecate my app Junction.

@sonny @tbernard Oooh, this looks nice! Reminds me of Androids share dialog - hopefully this doesn't also have a 5 second delay loading elements lmao

@sonny @tbernard wait, where would the "show more..." button to show all apps?

Sonny

@NickAnEngineer @imadnyc @tbernard

That's what Junction does.

We probably want to redo this "All Applications" dialog at some point but I guess it'd work for a first iteration.

@sonny @NickAnEngineer @tbernard Oh, nice! Never used junction so this might already be in it, but I think it would be neat that if you choose something from the "Show more" category it puts another pop-up asking to be the default instead of assuming that what you chose should be the default, since selecting stuff in the show-more might be a one-off

@sonny @NickAnEngineer @tbernard While I'm just throwing stuff out there maybe change the style of the icon for view all? Right now among the colorful icons I kind of ignore it as the "background" text, and maybe that makes it harder to find. Idk though I'm terrible at UI and UX and design tho in general lmao

@imadnyc @sonny @NickAnEngineer @tbernard

It just adds it to the list of all the possible apps for that specific file type

@sonny @tbernard I've always wanted a way to select different programs to open by selecting the file name on the terminal. So I wrote an imperfect gnome extension before. I really hope the official can realize this function.

@gregorni @sonny @tbernard Yeah, this is just the thing we'd like to be able to do with Maps for (some) openstreetmap.org URLs. There's already support for parsing them as commandline arg

Gregor Niehl

@mlundblad Wait, I didn't quite follow. What did you want to deprecate, Maps or support for those URLs?

Marcus Lundblad

@gregorni Ahh, no I meant being able register as a handler for a certain URL pattern.That is something I'd like to be able to do in Maps
