13 barn owls in a trench coat

@gamingonlinux Oh gods. At @adventurex conference, several of us were joking about AI coming to adventure games. Jinxed ourselves, didn't we?

@gamingonlinux My first thought: the artwork looks nice. My second thought: the artwork looks mismatched. My third thought: the artwork is kind of all over the place.

@gamingonlinux I could probably live with the AI art if the gameplay was good enough, but AI voices rules it out entirely for me โ€” I have a visceral reaction to those AI voiced YouTube vids, they make me irrationally (?) angry, I canโ€™t watch them.

@gamingonlinux
I've tried using AI as a shortcut for gaming artwork to reduce workload but I've never found it to be very consistent & this looks the same... Passable with a cursory glance but adventure game scenes are often viewed for extended periods.

So far AI art is good for a laugh but it has no vision & no genuine originality so I don't think artists need fear yet.

lime!

@gamingonlinux well, it was bound to happen.

i see a lot of people in the diy ml sphere who train datasets for stuff like this with only ethically sourced material (eg self-made or CC0 stuff). any words on that from these devs?
