@halva both ms-dos and the NT kernel both came largely into commercial use from contract work with IBM.

what im saying is that microsoft already did have commercial success with selling at&t's unix

@ioletsgo if anything that timeline is more likely than the one we've found ourselves in, as windows 3.x was the last attempt to make it popular after windows 1.0 and 2.x kinda flopped
